Hi all,
I've begun taking graduate coursework in Mental Health Counseling, but haven't officially applied to the program yet.
The SW program is not as feasible for me, but I am slightly aware that LCSW's are considered more marketable.
I'd be interested to hear some feedback on this--especially anyone who's gone back to school for the MSW after trying to make it with the MHC or MFT degree.
Thanks in advance :)

You don't say what state you are from. Different states have different licensing regs. Here in Mass. you cannot get a LMHC until you have worked full time for two years, whereas you can get an LC right out of school. Here we have the LICSW which is the independent license which is the same as the LMHC.
Most insurance companies won't take anything below a LMHC or LICSW. Medicaid is one of the few.
I was always told by folks in the field that a Social Work degree is more flexible and useful. By the by... a friend of mine got her Mental Health Counselor and could not do much with it. Right now she is in a doctoral program in social work.
I would ask professionals in your area to get a better idea of the preference.
Good Luck!
